So what does a snow expert witness do during the spring, summer, and fall? This is the time to review the past and look forward to the future!
Regarding temperatures, the winter of 2018-2019 was a mix of really cold and unusually warm. The average contiguous U.S. temperature during February was 32.0°F, 1.8°F below the 20th century average. This ranked among the coldest third of the 125-year period of record and was the coolest February since 2010.
Much-above-average temperatures were observed across the Southeast. Florida had its second warmest February on record. Six additional states across the Southeast had a top 10 warm February.
Snow? The February precipitation total for the contiguous U.S. was 3.22 inches, 1.09 inches above average. This was the second highest February precipitation total on record for the nation and only 0.10 inch behind 1998.
Some of the statistics are still being compiled, but all-in-all the weather was and will continue to be as expected: Very unpredictable.
We have found that the annual “Farmer’s Almanac” prediction of future weather is not very reliable and since no one knows for sure what’s going to happen it is best to hope for the best, but be prepared for the worst.
Have all the supplies you need to keep pedestrian and vehicular traffic clear from dangerous areas that you are responsible for if there is a serious storm. And make sure you have the personnel to implement the various precautions and actions that you decide to implement.
